Local Government Boundary Review

A new pattern of wards for Fareham Borough Council was developed by the Local Government Boundary Commission (LGBCE) for England between 2022-2023.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England is an independent body accountable to Parliament. It recommends fair electoral and boundary arrangements for local authorities in England. In doing so, it aims to:

Following a 10-week consultation on the proposed new pattern of wards between September and November 2022, the LGBCE considered all of the submissions received during the consultation and published its final recommendations External Hyperlink (opens in new window) on 7 February 2023.

The Commission's final recommendations proposed that Fareham Borough Council should have 32 councillors, an increase of one.  Those 32 councillors should represent 16 two-councillor wards. None of the existing wards would remain the same and all would have different boundaries.

After the publication of its final recommendations, a Draft Fareham (Electoral Changes) Order 2023 was laid in Parliament on 18 May 2023.  The Fareham (Electoral Changes) Order 2023 was made on 14 July 2023, at which point the recommendations in the order became law.  The new warding arrangements were implemented with effect from May 2024, with all-out elections being held to elect to all 32 seats.
