Non religious services

There is no requirement to have a religious or other ceremony at a funeral. Some people may prefer a Humanist Ceremony where a celebrant will conduct an event involving readings of prose, tributes by attendees and appropriate music. The British Humanist Association website External Hyperlink - Opens in new tab offers advice on humanist ceremonies and you can buy its booklet A Practical Guide to Non-Religious Funerals External Hyperlink - Opens in new tab. Celebrants are trained professionals who officiate at funerals, weddings, naming events or any other rite of passage. If you do not want a ceremony at all, members of your family or close friends can attend a committal which can be in silence if you prefer.
