Non religious services

There is no requirement to have a religious or other ceremony at a funeral. Some people may prefer a Humanist Ceremony where a celebrant will conduct an event involving readings of prose, tributes by attendees and appropriate music. The British Humanist Association website  offers advice on humanist ceremonies and you can buy its booklet A Practical Guide to Non-Religious Funerals . Celebrants are trained professionals who officiate at funerals, weddings, naming events or any other rite of passage. If you do not want a ceremony at all, members of your family or close friends can attend a committal which can be in silence if you prefer.
