Charities

Charities that own an unoccupied property can claim an exemption from the Council Tax for a maximum period of 6 months.

This exemption is only applicable when the property was previously occupied for charitable purposes and will be used for charitable purposes when reoccupied.

Any period of temporary occupation of less than six weeks is ignored when counting how long a property has been unoccupied.

If you want to apply for an exemption, email counciltax@fareham.gov.uk.  We will generally seek confirmation that the property is empty before we will grant an exemption.

You must inform the Council if you are no longer entitled to a discount or exemption. We will take legal action against anyone who fraudulently claims a discount or exemption.

For further information please contact the Council Tax office on tel: 01329 824651, or e-mail counciltax@fareham.gov.uk.
