What is Council Tax?
Council Tax is your contribution to the many services that Fareham Borough Council provides such as collecting and recycling refuse and providing housing, as well as providing funds for Hampshire County Council, Hampshire Police Authority and Hampshire Fire & Rescue Authority.
Council Tax is charged on properties that are used for domestic and residential purposes which do not include business use (for information on business properties see Business Rates).
If a property is used for both domestic and non-domestic purposes (such as a Public House), part of it will be assessed for Business Rates and the other part for Council Tax. These types of properties are known as "composite" properties. For more information on composite properties email counciltax@fareham.gov.uk
The level of Council Tax payable by properties in the Fareham Borough Council area is decided annually and consists of a contribution towards services provided by:
- Hampshire County Council
- Fareham Borough Council
- Hampshire Police Authority
- Hampshire Fire & Rescue Authority
