Celebrate 100 years of flying at Daedalus

Tickets are now on sale for an event celebrating 100 years of flying at Daedalus.

Flight enthusiasts and members of the community are invited to come along for the celebrations which will take place at Solent Airport at Daedalus on Saturday

16 September from 10am – 4pm.

Visitors can enjoy a static aircraft display showcasing some of Daedalus' old favourites in partnership with local flying associations.  There will also be stalls and side shows, a selection of catering outlets, a fun fair, bouncy castle and various other children's activities.

Councillor Trevor Cartwright, Chairman of the Daedalus Anniversary Group, said:  "This is a fantastic opportunity to visit Daedalus and learn about its heritage whilst having fun with all of the family.  You'll also be able to see some of the improvements that have been made since Fareham Borough Council took ownership in 2013."

The centenary event marks 100 years of flying at the airfield which opened in 1917 during the First World War.  During the Second World War the site was home to a number of first-line squadrons and it played an enormous part in D-Day operations on the South Coast deploying 435 units, the largest number by far than at any other UK airfield on D-Day.

Tickets for Daedalus 100 must be purchased in advance and can be purchased from the Booking Office at Ferneham Hall during normal opening hours (9.30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday) or online from the website www.fernehamhall.co.uk External Hyperlink (opens in new window).

More information about the event can be found at: www.solentairport.co.uk External Hyperlink (opens in new window).
