Press Release

16 June 2017

Primary healthcare for Welborne Garden Village

Fareham Borough Council has received a letter from the West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) outlining its response, as a consultee, to the Buckland planning application.

The letter states that West Hampshire CCG is able to accommodate a third of new residents at Welborne through an extension to Wickham surgery.  It also urges the Council to remove land provision for health facilities in the Welborne Plan and work with both West Hampshire and Fareham & Gosport CCGs 'to ensure that appropriate developer contributions can be made to support the growth planned for the Welborne community'.

Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Seán Woodward said: 'I am extremely disappointed with this response.  The whole point of having gone through the process of developing the Welborne Plan is to provide certainty about what will and won't be included.

"We have been clear from the outset that the new community must have its own facilities and primary healthcare is a key component of this."

The Council's Vision for Welborne is for a Garden Village with thriving new district and local centres, new jobs, schools, facilities, shops and community facilities.  This Vision chimes with the Government's 'Garden Village principles of sustainable new communities.

Cllr Woodward added: "I will be meeting with both West Hampshire and Fareham & Gosport CCGs to discuss this matter further."

To date there has been no response to the Buckland planning application from the Fareham & Gosport Clinical Commissioning Group in whose geography the entirety of Welborne sits.
