Planning application permitted for IFA2

The Planning Committee of Fareham Borough Council has today resolved to grant outline planning permission for a new electricity interconnector at Daedalus, Stubbington and cables connecting to the substation near Chilling, Warsash. The planning permission will not be issued until the applicant, National Grid, has signed a legal agreement which covers a range of issues.

The application is to build the converter station, and to lay underground cables at Daedalus, Hill Head and Chilling.  The planning application also proposes to deliver an area of public open space running south of Gosport Road, from Southways to the Peel Common roundabout.

Councillor Nick Walker, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said: "This is an important planning proposal for Fareham and one that has led to considerable local interest.  Having looked at and balanced all relevant planning issues, it was considered that the proposal would make a valuable contribution towards securing the supply of electricity for the nation. Whilst the Planning Committee acknowledged that some negative impacts could arise, measures have been put in place to ensure as far as possible that these are kept to a minimum."
