IFA2 moves forward

Fareham Borough Council has confirmed a number of new developments concerning the IFA2 project.

Firstly, planning permission has been granted for National Grid IFA2 Ltd's proposed electricity interconnector at Daedalus and cables connecting it to the substation near Chilling, Warsash.

The plans also include proposals to deliver an area of public open space running south of Gosport Road, from Southways to the Peel Common roundabout.

Secondly, National Grid IFA2 Ltd has signed a legal agreement as part of their deal to lease land at Daedalus.  The agreement puts in place a number of obligations designed to protect the community and the Council both during and after the construction of IFA2. These include:

Giving the Council control over when construction takes place to minimise the disturbance to the airport and its neighbours.

A guarantee that any unforeseen issues, including the unlikely event of emissions beyond the interconnector site, will be resolved by IFA2

Finally, two major new technical studies have been commissioned that will test whether the Converter Station and underground cables can operate without affecting the running of Solent Airport and its business parks .  They will also take into future aspirations such as navigational aids and runway lighting.  The technical studies will need to demonstrate how the facility will safely coexist with the Airport, now and in the future, before any construction work can start.

Cllr Woodward said: "We have ambitious plans for the future of the Solent Airport and its two new business parks. These agreements and studies will help ensure that IFA2 coexists happily alongside the Airport, business based at Daedalus and the local community now and in the future."
