Hook Lake Self Guided Walk

The Walk

From Solent Drive turn left back into Hook Park Road. Past the housing on your left you will see an open space with a path leading along the left hand edge. Follow this path, keeping the housing to your left. Towards the end of the open ground the path will veer to the left. Follow this route onto a side street, and out to Hook Park Road.

Cross the road, following it a little to the right until you find a path to your left along the side of a house. This path will lead you towards the coast, and soon you should be able to see Hook Lake to your right.

When you reach the Solent turn right onto a path which leads along the top of the beach. (Short cut: Continue along this path, past the nature reserve on your left, until you see a footpath leading along the side of the nature reserve. Take this path, following it to the left into a side road which will lead you out onto Hook Park Road. Turn right and follow the road until you see Solent Drive on your left).

Continue along this path for some way until you see a lane on your left hand side, leading up from the beach. Follow this track up.

Shortly after you pass a bend in the road, you will see the footpath continues through the field to your right. Take this path across the fields and over stiles, following the path to the left at the boundary of the first field and veering right again towards a house. The path will lead you out onto Hook Park Road.

Turn left here and follow the track until you see Solent Drive on your right.

Travel directions

From M27 junction 9 follow signs for A27. You will quickly reach a large roundabout. Take the turning for A27 West, towards Park Gate. Go straight over two roundabouts. At the third roundabout, with a petrol station to the left, turn left into Brook Lane. At the first roundabout follow Brook Lane round to the right and continue along this road until you reach a mini roundabout. Go straight ahead into Newtown Road and follow this route. You will cross a creek and the road will narrow, circling round some housing. The next left will be Solent Drive. Park your car in this vicinity.

Nearest refreshments

The Rising Sun, Shore Road. From Solent Drive turn right onto Hook Park Road. Follow this back to the mini roundabout, where you should turn left. Continue along this road, following the one way markings right down towards the shore, until you see a car park to your right. The Rising Sun is located on your left.
