Ear piercing, electrolysis and skin piercing

We have adopted byelaws under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 to enforce registration of acupuncture, tattooing, ear-piercing and electrolysis.

These require each premises and individual operator offering ear piercing, electrolysis and skin piercing to be registered with the local authority. With officers from the Department of Health, we regularly inspect operators to ensure health and safety regulations are maintained.

What paperwork do you need to apply for registration to carry out acupuncture, tattooing, ear-piercing and/or electrolysis:

• Application for registration to carry on the business of electrolysis (89 KB)
• Application for registration to carry out the practice of skin piercing operator (87 KB)

Body piercing

We have also adopted a voluntary body piercing code of practice as at present there are no statutory regulations to enforce it.
