Traffic Management
The Traffic Management function ceased to be run by Fareham Borough Council on 30th June 2017. From 1st July 2017, most traffic management matters are addressed by Hampshire County Council, who can be contacted by email at roads@hants.gov.uk.
A wealth of information is available on the HCC website (Traffic Management) .
There are two functions which will remain with Fareham Borough Council as follows:
- Parking Enforcement – further information is available on the Parking Enforcement Policy
(863 KB)
- Speed Limit Reminder signs – further information is available on the Enforcement of Speed Limits page.
Concerns about parking which causes obstruction or road safety hazards should be referred to the Police by calling 101.
All other complaints about parking, including all other requests for parking restrictions, should be referred to roads@hants.gov.uk as should all other Traffic-related concerns.
Traffic investigations
Traffic investigations can include surveys of vehicle speed, traffic volume, accident analysis and cycle/pedestrian flows along a specific stretch of road. We get many requests and to keep this to a manageable level, we ask that they should all meet one or more of the following criteria before being placed on the pool (waiting) list:
- An identified need to help cyclists
- An identified need to help pedestrians (including requests for pedestrian crossings)
- Three or more recorded personal injury accidents in a three year period at a junction or within a 100 metre stretch of road (in the case of traffic calming requests accidents should be speed related)
- A problem relating to a crime and/or personal safety
- Help with non-motorised travel to school.
For more information, contact traffic@fareham.gov.uk or telephone 01329 236100.
Requests for pedestrian crossings
Pelican and zebra crossings give pedestrians safe points to cross roads carrying large volumes of traffic. Criteria for providing these is set down by the Department of Transport which set out strict rules for us to follow. Vehicle and pedestrian counts must be used to assess the situation, together with any other local factors.
For more information please e-mail roads@hants.gov.uk.
