Swanwick Shore conservation Area

Swanwick Shore conservation area was designated in 1994 to protect the character of the small riverside settlement on the eastern bank of the River Hamble, close to the Bursledon Bridge. It includes a small group of historic buildings, the river front, public hard and the Bridge Road front south of the A27.

Fareham Borough Council has made an Article 4 Direction in Swanwick Shore Conservation Area making a planning application necessary for certain types of development.

What is an Article 4 Direction?

An Article 4 Direction means that a planning application must be made where a development may be considered harmful and may affect the character and appearance of the conservation area. The direction does not necessarily mean that the development cannot occur; it just needs planning permission.
