Textile recycling

All textiles, clothing, household linens, underwear, shoes and accessories can be reused or recycled. Even worn or old items can be recycled as long as they are clean. They cannot be recycled in the kerbside recycling bins but you can put all items in textile recycling banks around the Borough or give them to a charity shop or jumble sale.

Textile recycling banks on public land in the borough are managed by The Salvation Army (under a contract with the Council). The material collected is sorted and sent for re-use. Worn out items can be sent for recycling into something fundamentally new, such as insulation material for new cars, cleaning wipers or blankets for the house removal trade.

There are textile banks at:

Please put items into a plastic bag and tie pairs of shoes together. Shoes can go in the textile bank if there is no shoe bank on site.

As well as the banks managed under the Council contract, there are other banks on private land managed by charities.
