Data Protection Act 2018

The Data Protection Act 2018 comes into force on 25 May 2018 with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).  This replaces the Data Protection Act 1998.

Under this Regulation, there will be no change to Fareham Borough Council's commitment to keep the large amount of personal data that it processes safe and using it fairly.

The DPA gives rights to individuals to access information held about them and to have inaccurate data corrected or erased.

Under the Data Protection Act, individuals have the following rights:

The right of access: this right enables you to obtain confirmation that your data is being processed, as well as access your personal information.  Further information can be found on our Subject Access Request page.

The right to erasure: this right enables you to have your data erased – also known as "The Right to be Forgotten"

The right to restrict processing: this right enables you to request the restriction or suppression of your personal data.  This, however, is not an absolute right and only applies in certain circumstances.
