Paying on foot
In one of our town centre Premium/Inner car parks, we have introduced a fairer payment system so that you no longer need to estimate how long you think you will park for. The 'pay on foot' system is in Market Quay surface car park. It works in this way:
- Take a ticket at the entry barrier. You will not be let in unless spaces are available
- Park as usual and carry your ticket with you
- As you return to your car, pay at the ticket machine in the pedestrian entrance before heading back to the car park. The machines accept coins and notes and give change and a receipt if needed. There is also a credit card facility in each car park
- Drive with your ticket to the exit barrier (you cannot pay here)
- Follow the instructions so that the barrier lifts to let you out.
Lost tickets will be charged at the hourly daily rate during charging hours. After 6.30pm Monday to Saturday and 4.00pm Sunday and Bank Holidays, press the information button for assistance. At the barrier and pay stations there is a voice link to the control room in case you need any help.
Pay and display
The rest of our town centre car parks still operate a pay and display system which means you should buy a ticket to cover the time of your stay. It works in this way:
- Find a space and park your car
- Follow the signs to the nearest pay machine
- Insert coin(s) or credit card to amount required (details are on the machine and car park sign)
- Allow coin(s) or credit card to register on display, follow details
- Press the 'ticket issue' button and check the departure time is correct
- Stick the ticket inside the front windscreen, making sure it is clearly displayed
- Return to your vehicle before your ticket expires to avoid being given a penalty charge notice
