Do you need planning permission?

You can carry out some works and alterations without planning permission.  To help you decide if you needed permission, we have provided links to visual guides below. You can also complete and return forms below along with details of work you would like to do so that we can let you know if you are likely to need planning permission.

In limited instances, we may have removed your rights to carry out alterations or changes without first getting planning permission. If this has happened, it would normally be done through a planning condition attached to planning permission for your property. We can also serve an article 4 direction which removes your rights to carry out changes without permission. If you are unsure if this applies to your property, please email developmentcontrol@fareham.gov.uk Even if you do not require planning permission, you may still need building regulations approval  External Hyperlink (opens in new window).

You can get a formal decision on whether proposed or completed work needs planning permission by applying online for a certificate of lawful use or development, a fee is payable.
